It is important that children experience a sense of belonging. Our role is to help children understand their role within our community, teaching them to respect and appreciate diversity.

We encourage children to be confident in their own social and emotional development, providing the support and foundations they need to recognise their feelings, make positive choices, and care for their own health and wellbeing.

Learning Through Play

Play-based learning is crucial for a child’s social, physical, emotional, and cognitive development. Our educators develop curriculums that balance spontaneous experiences with intentional learning, inspiring children to develop a lifelong love of learning.

Communication

Positive communication skills start developing from a young age. We support our children in expressing themselves verbally and non-verbally, while also nurturing their listening abilities.

Our Philosophy

Children

We believe respectful, responsive and reciprocal relationships are central to the children’s education and care. These relationships will always have priority over documentation if this takes away from the quality of care we provide.

Families

At Birra-Li we value the relationships between children and their families. We see families as children’s first and most important teachers. We engage in shared decision making, ensuring family views are respected.

Educators

Each child has unique interests and strengths and will develop at their own rate. Our educators will include the children’s perspectives in teaching and creating
our programs to deliver experiences that enrich
children’s learning.

Environments

We believe children learn best through their environments and when they are engaged in play. Our environments will reflect the children’s interests and allow children to build their own knowledge and skills.

Community

Being not for profit, we ensure our service is managed with the best interests of our children, families and community. At Birra-Li we foster relationships within our community and educate our children to ensure our families histories, cultures, traditions and knowledge are valued, respected and reflected in our service.

Our Environments

Babies Room | 6 weeks - 18 months

Our Babies Room caters to children aged 6 – 18 months old, accommodating up to 10 children and 3 educators at any time.

Toddlers Room | 18 months - 2.5 years

Our Toddlers Room caters for children aged 18 months – 2.5 years, accommodating up to 12 children and 4 educators at any time.

Pre-Kindy | 2 - 3 years

Our Pre-Kindy Room caters for children aged 2 – 3 years, accommodating up to 17 children and 4 educators at any time.

Kindy Room | 3 -5 years​

Our Kindy Room caters for children aged 3 – 5 years, accommodating up to 26 children and 3 educators at any time.

If you would like to enrol your child, please download and complete our waitlist form. Please note each of our rooms has a waitlist, so we encourage submitting your form as early as possible to avoid delays or disappointment.

Even though I write for a living, I'm not sure I can express what Birra-Li means to me and my family. Being able to drop my kids off and go to work without worrying about them is a true privilege. There isn't a week that goes by without me feeling deeply grateful for the service the early educators at Birra-Li provide to my kids. This is a centre that is truly there for them. They are clearly passionate about early education and go above and beyond to support mothers, fathers, and carers in general. Like many mums, the first day I dropped off my kids there, I walked back home crying (yes, it was a sad little scene). Now that my eldest is about to start school, I know that I'll cry just as much when we no longer need Birra-Li's services. As an immigrant mother with no family here, it's not often we can say we've found our community, but that is what this centre means to me.
